My daughter is 5 years old and wears size 7 shirts so I figured she would be medium here. But knowing that dancewear can run small and my daughter has both a long waist and a larger torso, I bought her a medium size (8-10) so she would have room to grow and that wouldn't be the case. Ironically, even the medium wasn't wide enough or long enough. My daughter looked like she was being squeezed into a toddler shirt and complained that she was uncomfortable. Her skin is swollen under her armpits, although she is of athletic build and could not dance comfortably in them. We ended up gifting this top to a smaller friend who normally wears a size 5-6. Go at least one size up and consider not actually buying it unless your daughter is wand thin and doesn't mind a cropped top that's very tight.
