The Makita carbide hole saw has tungsten carbide teeth which cut much faster than the tiny HSS bi-metal hole saw steel teeth. Carbide teeth stay sharp much longer. Good for stainless steel which can harden when drilled when heated. We've started using the new Blue Boar TCT stainless steel cutters in place of the Makita and Greenlee. The Blue Boar is half the price and cuts just as well, and we love that we can use it on a regular hole saw arbor and that it uses 1/4" pilot bits. HSS center drill bits from another arbor and does the job Not a Blue Boar TCT Metal Pro 3" (76mm) Tungsten Carbide Milling Cutter. Stainless steel up to 5/16" thick, sheet metal, cast iron, aluminum, copper, brass, sheet steel, fiberglass, fiberglass. More holes per dollar than HSS or bi-metal bits
