What would we do without them?

We got our little girl about 1.5 years ago at the shelter. They told us she was potty trained and about 7 years old. After a checkup with the vet, he said she couldn't be more than 3. She was 'sort of' potty trained.but not so good. So we tried putting puppy pads in her favorite places in the house.but she didn't quite get the idea and would go everywhere else. We tried and tried, but decided to have her checked over again. She had a bladder infection. It was treated twice, then our vet said she has a chronic bladder infection. Since we both work or volunteer most days and can't stay home to catch her each time she needs to go, and being so tired of constantly cleaning carpets, we had no choice but to use diapers. These fit her comfortably; however, she always could rub up against something to get them off when we weren't looking with her belly bigger than her hips, so I made some suspenders which work beautifully. Also, because she drinks a ton (which the vet said let her do to help keep the bladder flushed), she pees a ton, so I also sewed inside an extra pad of 1/2 of a Birdseye cloth diaper. She goes through about 4 diapers a day, so we have plenty on hand. Most of the time we can get her outside to go, but there's many times she just can't hold it. We are grandparents (old) but we have our "baby" to tend to now. We love our little girl, but we're too old for this, so she's probably going to be our last dog :( They're easy enough to wash. (99% of the time she lets us know when she has to poo and we can get her outside in time, about 2x/day.) Just like human baby diapers, I use a diaper pale with water and a little vinegar until I'm ready to wash a small load. I drain the water in our outside garage wash tub (right next to the washer/dryer), wash in hot water with detergent, and instead of fabric softener, I rinse with more vinegar, then a second additional rinse (or short wash cycle). Dryer is medium heat, and it does take a bit longer than normal with the extra folded and sewn in Birdseye diapers, but it's worth it. While both washing and drying, they need to be 'closed' and turned inside out for better cleaning and drying, and to keep the velcro from sticking to anything else. We tried cutting holes for her tail in regular disposable baby diapers and taping around the cut edge to keep the padding and absorbent materials from falling out, and they do work for emergency backup, but we prefer the cloth.
