This adapter works fine after I solved the static problem that other reviewers mentioned - in my case (as in theirs) my monitor alternately showed the desktop and the screen full statically, with seconds changing every few seconds. I have a Ryzen 3 2200g processor with integrated graphics and a gigabyte motherboard - I ended up downloading AMD graphics software (I used their detection tool and downloaded the recommended software for my setup) and disabled HDCP support (Settings > Display > Overrides > HDCP Support (disabled)). I hope this helps someone with a similar issue as I was disappointed with the product which turned out to be fully working. I've found it useful to have two monitors that duplicate displays so I can see what I'm doing on the monitor connected via HDMI, but for now I'm just using the VGA connection, leaving HDMI free for a second monitor refresh on that setting. in the future.
