Ebays Fullfillment center damaged paper in shipping!

Im comparing this to StarDream gold card stock. Both state 105# weight. StarDream seems almost twice as firm and sturdy/stiff overall. (NOTE I am aware that weight often does not indicate quality or feel of paper stock in text or cover stock. But I needed to have some faith. I just wish it had more stiffness as a cover material.) I ran of StarDream gold midway through a project. So I had to order. I ordered Stardream from EastCoast company at great price but it would not arrive in time. SO I ordered the Star Dream to replenish my supplies but then turned to Ebay to find something that claims to be a close equivalent. This paper has a bit more sheen to it and slightly smoother surface. But close enough overall to finish the remainding 36 books & match the ones already finished. Ebay's prices for Stardream are way out of line. Shop or google for much better prices much closer to this paper in fact even if you pay some shipping charges. But in my case time was the compelling factor here.So now to AMAZON.there was a time all books soft covered or hardback and all paper like this was secured and wrapped with clear wrap to a flat piece of cardboard to prevent the fragile paper products from slamming around inside a bigger box or being hit from other items in that box and also to just protect it from outside damage if that happened in shipping too. I blame AMAZON here not the seller perse. I gave the seller however 2 stars on their review page in as much as that is AMAZON's fullfillment center. Perhaps Ebays robots can't do all these nice things that humans once did. I have no idea how sophisticated the robots are. Maybe we need to ask Ebays home helper bot? NOT! Anyway $18.00's for 50 sheets of paper that arrived every single sheet damaged all the way through on two corners plus a large scratch that made the paper look like it had a dirty mark on it.it was an illusion caused by the type of paper and the scrape itself. Anyway I have photos.if someone wants to contact me. I had no time or choice but to attempt to make do.so no time to return and exchange or I would have for sure. I think maybe sellers that provide products to the Ebay Warehouse needs to start adding on extra protection especially to fragile and expensive paper products.books too people. Ebay no longer CARES. So I still have paper left over from the project and no I can't run it through my printer. I tried to use an acrylic roller to smooth out the corners but that did not work. I couldn't cut off 2 inches on one end I needed the full sheet. I would have needed 72 full sheets to throw away the other end to work with what I needed to complete the project. I came up with a unsatisfactory fix more a kind of cheat but it worked. This project is not being reimburst so I had no choice but to be creative and I managed. But had I had time I would have returned at their or in this case AMAZONS expense and not ordered again. Mind you despite the difference between StarDream and this paper both have it's own charms and I can see if for price a do it yourself person would be happy with this if it came undamaged however maybe not if they wanted a FIRM STRONG cover. I was using it to firm up a vinyl cover so the books I was making would sit up as an easel if someone wanted to choose one of the photos to view set up on a book case for example. I've been making photo books similar for years. This project had a purple/gold theme so the metalic touch of gold was ideal with the purple slight textured vinyl cover. I live in a remote area of the Rockies so buying quality fancy papers in local stores is not an option and therefore I do depend a great deal on Mail Order. PS if you are familiar with StarDream's Gold this has a much more fragile finish and printing on it is different. StarDream text and cardstock would take inkjet colored inks much better than this paper. I found two designs I tried to print on it.turned muddy. I checked it out via cutting off the bad end and it did nto print as nicely. Text was ok but four designs I chose all went muddy. I got around the problem of not being able to run the sheets through my printer via the damaged corners.by using text gold close enough in color. I debated to glue to card stock or leave loose. I left loose in the end. The two sheets stay pretty much together probably static when you turn the pages. I would buy this paper again if I knew it wouldn't come damaged but not to use as a cover stock as such as StarDream and another brand is much better. I can't think of the name of my favorite text in gold. I just ordered more of it too to replenish my depleted stocks for this project. But go to PaperPapers and look up Shine Papers. Their light gold is lovely in text. I haven't tried their cardstock. They also carry Stardream but I ordered from a different vendor. Also Paperpapers does sell through Ebay but on their own they offer a free shipping choice if you meet a minimum I think it was 35.

Pros
  • Ideal for creating handmade cards with a touch of elegance
Cons
  • The metallic finish may not be compatible with certain types of glues or tapes
