<tl;dr>This is a fantastic router. I upgraded from the Archer C7 and the difference in speed and response times is huge, to say the least: [.] I live in a small apartment with a lot of interference from nearby WiFi, and OnHub's built-in congestion-detection antenna seems to be handling this issue quite well . With my new OnHub router, I can finally use almost 100% of the available bandwidth anywhere in my apartment without having to switch back and forth between WiFi and Ethernet. a reliable router that is worth the investment. Incredibly easy to set up and manage with the OnHub app.</tl;dr>Overview ---------- Although I've only been using it for a few weeks, I can safely say that the Asus OnHub router is the best router I have ever used. Its setup is ridiculously user-friendly. Also, as someone who works in IT and doesn't mind doing things the "old fashioned way", I really appreciate that. I couldn't help but smile at how the router actually plays its own musical "melody" to pair with your mobile device. No need to look for a PIN or anything like that on the back of the router. At $200, OnHub is a bit more expensive compared to most of its competitors. But despite the good construction and performance of this router, the investment is definitely worth it. As far as routers go, OnHub is in a class of its own. Comparison--------------------So far I've been using the Archer C7 from TP-Link, which you can find here: TP-LINK Archer C7 AC1750 2.4 GHz 450Mbps + 5GHz 1300Mbps Dual Band Wireless Gigabit AC Router 2 USB IPv6 guest network. bedroom apartment. With so little space, you'd think the Archer C7 would be more than enough to meet my needs, right? WiFi interference. This interference was apparently so severe that even 20 feet away from my Archer C7 router in the next room, I could only sustain a signal strength of about 60% on the 5GHz network band. get performance close to that of a $100 1 Gigabit router. Nothing I did seemed to result in much improvement; I updated the router firmware, set the maximum supported power output for the 5GHz network, and tried to keep it on a frequency with the least interference. I even tried flashing an OpenWRT router to no avail. I've shown that OnHub wireless connections work almost as well as Ethernet connections. Not only in terms of bandwidth, but also latency/ping. I have attached the results of some performance tests to this report. To make a long story short, with my previous router I capped around 130-160 Mbps, although my internet plan offers up to around 350 Mbps. With the OnHub router, I can easily use 100% of the available bandwidth without breaking a sweat. Not only that, although the Archer C7 more than doubled my latency on some connections, the OnHub router works so well that the latency difference between it and a wired connection is almost indistinguishable! Cons/Dislikes -------------------- ------------------ Overall, I have no major complaints. As an experienced user, you can expect the lack of a web interface to bother me. I was a bit skeptical at first, but to be honest, most router web interfaces are pretty terrible. They are unintuitive, contain bugs and are all too often subject to various security vulnerabilities. I was pleasantly surprised by the OnHub app. Overall it makes a very solid impression. The design is simple but very aesthetic, and the app makes it easy to set up and manage the router yourself. One thing I'd like to see is USB storage support. The OnHub USB connector is currently useless for end users. If USB drive support could be implemented in such a way that you could plug a flash drive into an OnHub router and then share photos, videos, etc. with the OnHub app to download directly to the flash drive, that would be this is a pretty useful feature in my opinion.
