In the early 1980's I had a board game consisting of cards, a metal dungeon and dragon pieces with an electronic tower called The Dark Tower. It was a huge hit ahead of the Cabbage Patch Dolls, Pacman and Toys from the collection everyone wanted for Christmas. This Christmas, 40 years later, I bought this Dark Tower for my son's room. It's rare that kids want to play music on a speaker, as the last decade of Dr. Dre Beats headphones to Apple Earbuds and now Air Pods. All of these hearing aids are solo compared to when I was in high school when I had a boombox. So if they don't just want to listen to music for themselves, I wanted a cool floorstanding speaker! This speaker stands over 3 feet tall and features a black wood grain finish. The top is glossy plastic, but it has easy-to-use control buttons that are also available on the small, rectangular remote control. The red LCD display shows the input mode and the volume setting. Unlike the 1980s where the volume was 1 to 10, this dial reads 30. A remote control or phone can be slipped into the slot at the top, and a USB port is for charging if you want to stream Spotify over Wi-Fi with a Bluetooth connection to the speaker (recipe for a cell phone battery killer). I'm impressed with the sound and he called it his "Dark Tower".
