I am using a Gorillapod with a Panasonic DMC-ZS3 which weighs about 8 ounces. The pod is great for the occasional shot when I need more stability than I can manually provide. I use it for long exposures at night and panorama on camera. It's not as easy to wrap this item around railings, fences, branches, etc. as I thought, mainly because I didn't. understand how short the legs are but once in place it stays in place. It's better for night shots than panoramas, as it's not very easy to keep the camera straight while panning, especially when the tripod is wrapped around something at an odd angle, but it's still easier than closing it by hand keep. I had a gorilla pod. for about a month. I read some complaints about the build quality before buying it, but I didn't see any signs of weakness from the stress I was putting on the joints. It grips slick surfaces like metal handrails fairly well, and I can comfortably wrap it around branches at the odd angles mentioned above without worrying about it diving. but with a telephoto lens I would be concerned about stability. It's not a substitute for a heavier traditional body when you need to hold your camera perfectly level or when shooting with a DSLR or other interchangeable lens camera. Common sense dictates that you don't rely on a $15 tripod to keep your $1,000 camera and lens intact. Whatever it is, it's great.
