Review on CURT 13240 Trailer Receiver Hyundai by Brad Knierim

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Don't buy from the dealer when you can get it for a lot less!

I bought this hitch for a 2016 Hyundai Tucson Limited AWD. Of course, the instructions could have been better. It's pretty simple, as long as you do it: take some WD40 to spray the rubber tailpipe bracket over the tailpipe tips. Lower hanger. Don't worry if you do it won't fall on you. You will then need to apply some pressure to the rubber bracket to remove it from the metal bar/bracket. Once you have done this the exhaust pipe will drop just far enough for you to tilt the hitch up to the holes in the frame where you will screw in the frame's 2 bolts. 4 screws on each side. You will see instructions on how to remove the plastic covers from the back of the driver's and passenger's rear bottom. Really easy. Use a small flathead screwdriver to pry the pins out. 4 on each side. Once the pins are removed, the plastic boxes just fall down. You will need a 17mm socket and a 6" or larger extension to reach the vertical studs. Horizontal bolts do not need to be lengthened. If you have a torque wrench, tighten the bolts to 40 pounds is required. Once the bolts are tightened, don't forget to put the exhaust pipe back on the hanger. It will slide very easily. I once applied sealant to the entire hitch to protect it. If you don't have sealant, just use whatever wax you have and apply maybe 2 coats to it. I bought a clutch cover that simply snaps into the receiver with an interference fit. No needle, nothing to hold it. It costs $5.99 at my local auto parts store. I should have taken the one Kurt says, but oh well. I hope this helps anyone who is worried about the installation or thinks it might be difficult. It was really quite easy. It took me 40 minutes to do everything from installation to removal. If you have ramps for lifting, your job will be much easier. I don't have a wiring harness for it. I have no intention of wearing anything. I use this for my bike rack and will be buying one of the baskets to put stuff in. When installed, it is not so noticeable. Not noticeable at all. Good quality, hope it lasts a long time. Certainly better than the $450+ the dealer wanted!
