Review on USB HDMI Display Adapter JUA350 by Michael Rosario

EDIT: I'm changing my rating from 2 to 4 stars. It actually works when the MacBook Air's lid is closed, and the secondary display it runs on can display resolutions up to 1080p. It works well enough, but not perfectly. I have an additional 27" display connected to this j5create device and the device is connected to a USB 3.0 hub along with other USB devices which are then connected to a MacBook Air. * I haven't tried connecting it to USB 2.0. Hub * The secondary display handles the secondary display well enough for office work, Youtube browsing, etc. It lacks a bit of sharpness, but I can live with that. I wouldn't play games with him. The error in my initial review was basically an error coupled with inadequate instructions. The instructions didn't state that I need the driver in a DIFFERENT directory if I'm using an older MacOS. I was working for High Sierra at the time. After upgrading to Catalina and using the default driver, it worked. One star for lack of documentation and some setup difficulties. If you are not satisfied with the system settings and driver installation, this is not for you. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I have a 2017 Macbook Air 13. So yes, I can output this to a second display. The setup is as follows: 1. Mac DisplayPort connects to my main display2. This j5create JUA350 brings the image to the second display. However, there are some serious limitations that are not discussed in the documentation or marketing materials. These limitations make this (expensive) adapter unsuitable for me. Limitations: 1. J5create JUA350 does not support an external display resolution higher than the Macbook Air's native display resolution. For example, the Macbook Air's screen has a resolution of 1440 x 900. This means that the maximum resolution that this device can display on your display can display is 1140 x 900.2. This device does not work when the laptop lid is closed. When I close the lid of my MacBook Pro, BOTH the display connected to DisplayPort and the display driven by this adapter are mirrored. The whole point of getting this adapter was being able to close my laptop and put it away. So it is not possible with this device on Macbook Air. Save your money if you don't want to have your laptop in the open on your desk (save yourself the need for another display!).
