My cat likes to sit or walk on my plants to get from point A to point B. I ordered them to be put on the ground so he doesn't have to walk around the territory to get to the plants. Unfortunately, that didn't stop my hangover in any way, he just ran over it. Plastic spikes are safe for the cat, but they must be uncomfortable enough for the cat not to walk on. I ended up splicing them together to make a fence, which is an acceptable deterrent. I've also used them to cordon off areas to keep the cat out.
