I realize this can be used as a standalone pad, but I've never used it that way. I only add a very thin layer on each side of the hard pad at a time to help seal it. I made 4 water pumps this way and each one worked perfectly. However, read the instructions. You have to apply it, install the parts, tighten the screws slightly, then wait an hour to tighten to spec and 24 hours before using it. Also, be careful how you store it. Screw the lid on tightly and put it in the zipper to let all the air out. Lasts one to two years.
