Review on ASRock Z490 Taichi: The Future-Ready Motherboard for Intel Core Processors (Socket 1200) by Billy Danaher

Works great on my gaming PC

I'm not a PC expert so I didn't write much of a review. To be honest, if you want to spend so much money on a motherboard, you shouldn't read Amazon reviews here anyway. Go to a technical website such as tomshardware.com or linustechtips.com. Youtube is another good source for reviews. But maybe my 2 cents can help. I bought this in the summer of 2020 for a gaming PC. I have an i7 10700k processor. I had no trouble overclocking the processor to 5.1 at 1.335 volts. I've been looking at aftermarket wireless cards and this motherboard already has the best wireless. RGBs are good, but not tasteless. Asrock Bios is easy to use. Polychrome Sync is easy to use. I had no problem setting my XMP to my RAM's XMP rating. 2 Mos fans MAY be heard if you use Asrock's Fan-tastic fan setup program and set it to run a fan test. This will increase the fan speed to maximum RPM and you will definitely hear it. However, I've only heard it once so far. Even stress testing my overclock, I couldn't get enough heat to run it at maximum RPM remotely, and I can't hear it at all. They don't work at all until you reach a high enough thermal threshold. I can't think of anything other than that I'm really happy with it. This is a top motherboard. That's the way it should be, since it's Asrock's current Intel flagship. Change: 10/30/2020. Today the I/O Shield LED burned out. I don't expect an LED to last forever, but a few to a few months is ridiculous. And a whole bar of them at once instead of 1 or 2 here or there is pretty confusing for Asrock. Based on some online research, this issue is not unheard of. Asrock places the LED too close to heat sources. It's not exactly a big problem, but it's quite annoying.

Pros
  • Enjoyable
Cons
  • Makes me nervous
