Reading the product reviews I noticed that one reviewer complained about the terrible smell. I ignored the warning of my own death, thinking it was an exaggeration as I didn't see others complaining about it. Unfortunately, this man was right. I think the product is great. Compact and durable, but if you have a good sense of smell then it's not worth buying. It does not smell like bamboo, but a non-slip rubber-like base. The upholstery is probably one of the reasons the table is so durable, but it has such a strong chemical rubber smell. Even my sofa armrest stank. I had to put a plastic bag on the back of the sofa and then cover it with a towel to prevent the smell from contaminating my sofa. However, this didn't stop the smell when I ate my food. Because you put food on the tray, the smell makes me sick when I eat. I tried cleaning it but it still stinks. Let's see if spraying with Febreze helps. Anyone with a suggestion on how to get rid of that chemical rubber smell would be greatly appreciated. Until this is fixed I cannot recommend this product if you have a poor sense of smell. Although I have to wonder if inhaling it doesn't cause any health problems even if you can't smell it.
