I used these lamps to decorate the topiary at the front of the house. Luckily I only needed 4 sets so the two that didn't catch fire weren't a problem for me. My only annoyance was that a third of the lights didn't work. As for size, I have two 36ft ball-shape topiaries and I used two sets of each, so you can go for the longer size if your goal is to cover anything over 3ft. Color/Lightness: They are less soft whites and more white. They are bright at night but barely visible during the day.
