Review on 🔧 The Ultimate iFixit Manta Driver Kit: 112 Precision Bits for Household & Electronics Repair by Rob Clark

I won't say much about build quality and such other than repeating what others have said. Suffice it to say that I will almost certainly be buying more iFixit tools in the future. My contribution to the discussion is some information for people trying to decide WHICH iFixit driver set to buy. I tried to choose between 48-bit driver kit (Mahi), 64-bit driver kit (Mako) or 112-bit driver kit (Manta). In particular, I wanted to know if the combined mahi and mako sets contain all the bits of the manta set (because 48 + 64 = 112). And if they didn't have the same bits, what bits would I be missing out on when choosing one over the other. This was all the more interesting to me as the current price of the Mahi + Mako kits on Revain is the same as the Manta kit but you also get a 150mm flex extension. (I tend to overanalyze things when you can't tell.) So I created a table to compare the bits found in each of the three product listings (screenshot attached). The red/green color code should be pretty obvious. The yellow color indicates where the Mako set contains hex bits that *technically* aren't in the Manta set, but I colored them yellow because the Manta set contains hex security bits of that size, not hex -Security bits. Actually, I think it's generally more useful to have security bits of the same size, especially since I have a lot of hex bits, but I wanted to emphasize that fact in case someone cares. As you can see from the table, the 112-bit Manta kit has 15 bits that neither of the other two have. That's because Mahi + Mako has quite a lot of matches (sad face). Some of the missing bits don't matter to me (I have a lot of driver socket adapters for example), but there are still 11 or 12 bits that might prove useful and would probably be hard to find elsewhere. . The only benefit I see in buying the Mahi + Mako kits is that the Mako comes with a flexible 150mm extension. However, you can buy it separately on the iFixit website.
