I use it on my desk where I wanted a side napkin box as that configuration works best on mine Writing desk. The compartment at the top is convenient for storing things. That's where I plug my headphones in to charge. I wouldn't recommend using it where you want to pull the napkin out with one hand as this box is very light and will move unless you press the top with something heavy in the tray. The hole in the box works well - the napkins don't tear when they come out (this is an issue with some other boxes where they make the hole too small or irregularly shaped). I don't use this box on my bedside table as I need to be able to pull out tissues with one hand while lying in bed. So I use a heavy glass box to seal the tissue box.
