Review on πŸ”Œ ECO-PLUG - Oil Drain Plug for Damaged Aluminum Oil Pans | Tapered Thread Size 12mm-16mm | Thread Diameter 3/4" | Short Thread & Non-Recessed Drain Hole by Walter Day

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Did the job - much better than other alternatives for repairing a stripped drain pan

I have a 2004 Honda Pilot and like many others the steel oil pan drain plug stripped the aluminum threads with the oil pan. All options to solve this situation were rather unattractive. After reading some positive reviews about EcoPlug I decided to take a chance. Installed yesterday, no leaks yet! After reading another review I bought the shorter Ecoplug (the one for non-recessed drain plugs) and am glad I did. It about half enters (i.e. half of the threads in the palette, half sticking out). If I went for a longer plug, there would be more threads in the sump and the drain hole on the plug would be higher than the bottom of the plan, meaning more oil would be left under the new drain hole. .Why I gave 4 stars instead of 5: The epoxy that came with the EcoPlug was already hard and gray and didn't work. I applied it, it was very crumbly and 1 minute before I installed the EcoPlug it was set and not sticky. I had to carefully scrape the epoxy off with EcoBolt and start over with JB Weld, which worked great.

Cons
  • Thin
