The smell is pleasant. It's a little pungent up close at first, but smells clean and not obnoxious. It is said to be a mixture of citronella and other scents. I usually hate the smell of citronella, but this is nice. The collar itself is easy to put on and stays in place. I was afraid our cat would take it off herself but she didn't. One last note: after about 30 minutes our very excited cat had already started to calm down. We date her more and seek affection more, which she has never done in 7 years. We will buy this again.
