Review on ๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ Logitech Ergo K860 Wireless Ergonomic Keyboard with Wrist Rest - Split Layout, Windows/Mac Compatible - Bluetooth/USB Connectivity (Renewed) by Jason Morrison

Decent hardware, limited software

I've been using Microsoft Sculpt for both work and home for a long time, but recently switched to a Mac to work from home, so I thought about it something up with a better Mac operating system and support for multiple devices and that seems to fill the bill. The hardware is generally decent, as one would expect given the price. While I personally prefer the keyless entry, I don't give it a single star. I don't care about backlights either, but I wish they didn't charge for backlit keyboards for non-backlit keyboards. The biggest hardware issue for me is the lack of an "fn" key on the left side, making DuoLink (hold down the "fn" key for alternate inputs for mouse buttons and movement) impractical. Even the tutorial in Logi Options assumes the button is on the left, making this layout decision a huge oversight. Worst of all, there is no way to configure the other key on the left as an Fn key, which brings me to my main issue with this product, which is the software. In typical modern app design style, this is very clean and minimal, but I feel like it went overboard in that direction at the expense of usability. First, you can only set up a very limited number of keys, mainly the function keys at the top (I think most people who use it for work don't care as they have to use F1-12 keys), I think for Any keyboard that should support both Windows and MacOS, the ability to customize Ctrl/Option/Start/cmd/Alt for each application is perhaps more important. Second, the customizable buttons they provide are also limited. For example, you can't assign a different Fn key as mentioned. As another example, I can't set the lock button as a sleep button. Finally, the software seems to be able to recognize Windows and Mac and change its layout accordingly, but there's no way to override it manually. I'm using the Windows Remote Environment and it would be nice to be able to switch to the Windows layout when I'm in the Remote Desktop app, but there's no option to set this myself in the app's settings. So overall it's very disappointing, especially considering how expensive Logitech costs this keyboard (and corresponding vertical mouse). I thought I could get a lot more functionality out of this than Sculpt, but in the end the only practical upgrade I got was multi-device support. I still have to rely on third party software to set up app keys. I think I'll have to stick with it for now as I can't find any other comparable ergonomic keyboard and mouse combo on the market. I just wish Microsoft would release a real sequel to Sculpt as the old ones don't last very long. Reviewers encountered one of my issues when seriously using the product for professional purposes.
