I use this tape for my watercolors and I like to tape paper before painting. I used the regular blue look and also tried washi tape. To be honest, I originally bought this tape from Walmart because it was green (and green is my favorite color), but now I keep buying it because it does what I want. I have a thicker look (it seems like 1.4 inches?) and it gives me more control over how big the rim is and sticks better to my table. When I take it off the paper, I just remove it slowly at a diagonal angle so it's less likely to tear. He will tear the paper. It's just one thing I've noticed even with my washi tape. Make sure you use good quality paper and I think you'll be fine. I found that ok with the Strathmore 400+500 and also with my Canson Montval paper. So far I've noticed that the only paper that's torn is Canson XL watercolor paper.
