years and years in freshly ground pepper mode I have tried out several cordless grinders. coarseness settings, and it costs $11.99. The downsides are esoteric but not unimportant: no LED lighting (I didn't realize how much I appreciated that on previous grinders) and you can't use large peppercorns. but I got some "exotic" peppercorns from my coffee roaster and filled the grinder 3 weeks later when it was almost empty and then my NEW pepper grinder just stopped working. It took me a few days (and reassembling the ridge) to figure out the problem, but once I put the peppercorns in, everything worked fine. (large grains are in the hand mill...)
