In the age of digital SLR cameras, people sometimes seem to forget the joy of filming. comes in a small metal can that you load into the back of the camera! Even Nikon, the long-established giant in the world of photography, has stopped making film cameras. Well, for those who still appreciate the fun of filming, this camera is arguably one of the best film SLRs ever made. I have owned several Minolta and Canon film cameras in my life, I even had a 35mm Mamiya Sekor (for those under 40 you can find this camera on Google or Yahoo) and I can say with confidence that this camera is excellent is in every possible way. It has enough features, both automatic and manual, to unleash the creative genius that lurks within you. Camera controls are laid out intuitively, so your fingers seem to automatically find the right buttons to press. Despite the fact that this camera has many features, the user is not overwhelmed by all the electronic magic. A beginner photographer will feel right at home with this camera after shooting a few rolls of film. Advanced photographers can use this camera's capabilities to improve and expand their creativity. The camera itself is well made. It feels solid, no cheap parts. The use of plastic is kept to a minimum and where plastic is used it is of the highest possible quality. I dropped this camera once and it didn't even ring! Everything is tight and works well. I've had this camera for several years now and after shooting countless rolls of film (and dropping it once) it still works and feels just like the day I took it out of the box. When purchasing this camera, you should also look for an optional battery grip (BP-300). This makes it easier to hold the camera when using long telephoto lenses, makes vertical photography easier, and allows the user to use AA batteries or standard lithium batteries. [.].This review is about the Elan 7. The 7 was followed by the 7E, then the 7N and finally the 7NE. The letter "E" stands for cameras with autofocus. You look through the viewfinder and the camera automatically focuses on the part of the scene your eye is looking at. This feature doesn't work well for Goggle users, so I settled on the standard Elan 7 model. The "N" denotes a newer version of the Elan 7. The improvements are nice, but they don't improve the overall quality and features that much Standard model Elan 7. I'd rather take the standard model 7 and put the money saved into a good lens. Buy this camera before they all sell out. You will not regret it. Digital is great, but film will never die!
