This thing comes with instructions which are confusing at first but eventually easy enough to follow, the image makes the material thick and strong but it's not. It's hard to tell what material it's made of cheap nylon (maybe the same material that the bed surround is made of, or the material under the spring block). If you have any animals they might rip it through like nothing, the bars are hollow cheap metal. This item is advertised as having a value of 60 and sold for 40, but 40 should be the base price if cheap materials are used. Update: Of course there are cats in my house but they don't scratch things they aren't supposed to, I've had it for over a year now and I've lost 3 shelves this year, the material isn't strong at all, will sag and eventually break, some people may not have this experience but mine was awful, plugs keep falling apart. As mentioned, the moment I taped them to the shelves they were torn, so I just taped them around to make my own shelf. It's just a bad product to sell for a "low price" of 40. This thing should be worth $20 max. Do yourself a favor and buy something more expensive, or just go to Ikea or Walmart and spend your $40 on something made out of wood.
