Review on Sony VRDMC3 DVDirect DVD Recorder: Efficient and Versatile Disc Recording Solution by Bryan Aleman

Better than expected

I've had this Sony VRD-MC3 for about a year and it performs better than expected. Initially, I mainly used it as a standalone DVD burner without connecting to a PC. After the internal (on my PC) DVD burner started shredding lots of new burnable DVDs, I connected the Sony VRD-MC3 to the PC and Windows XP recognized it with no problems. It hasn't let me down so far, even with any DVDs where the internal DVD burner didn't work before. Now when I want to use it with a PC, I just go to the menu and set it to PC mode; and if not, I just don't install the PC. This device is more than an external DVD burner, it can even be used without connecting to a PC, which is already mentioned in many reviews. The included Nero 7 was a bonus for me. I wanted to buy a Nero-like software package and found that this burner already included it. The software back then cost about $xx, which is already included for free. Before installing Nero I first created a restore point in XP (I do this before every install I'm not sure about). After installing the bundled copy of Nero 7, the system seemed to work fine, I didn't notice any problems. I have the opportunity to update Nero 7 to a newer version for free. I selected and updated the option. For some reason, XP stopped responding after the update. Without wasting time trying to figure out why, I uninstalled Nero and reverted XP to a pre-install restore point. I then reinstall the bundled copy of Nero 7 and run some tests. Since then, this copy of Nero 7 has been working fine for me. I've been using it for about a year now. I find the price of the Sony VRD-MC3 and the included Nero 7 very reasonable.
