Works amazing. for now?

Was looking for a small mp3 for skateboarding and decided on this Idooz device because of the good reviews. I do not intend to use this device as a voice recorder, connect it to a car receiver or radio. It's nice to have these options, but unfortunately I can't comment on these specific features. When I received it, I was struck by its size: the MP3 player is about as long as my index finger (3.5 inches) and less than two fingers thick (1 1/8 inches). Fits perfectly in my pocket, weighs less than my AKG headphones I spent a few minutes reading the user manual before touching the device to familiarize myself with the idooz interface. It's really not that difficult to understand even if you dive blind. I followed another reviewer's recommendation to label songs with number values (the user manual clearly describes this process, FYI) I currently have no songs stored on this device. All my music is downloaded to a 16GB micro SD card (formatted in FAT32) to which mp3 is fast. I was pleasantly surprised at how fast this device can read all my music from a micro sd card. Shadow of the content of the external card; not an idiot. The interface also makes it easy to access: when you're in music mode, just press the "M" button on the side of the device and navigate to the card folder, which is literally two clicks down. Another nice convenience is that this player's software remembers where you left off, even if the music file is stored on your external micro SD. To be honest I didn't expect that from such a cheap thing as most other players on the market don't bring you back to the original music file, especially if it's stored on an external card. Sound quality is identical to 192kbps on my computer with the same headphones and can get quite loud as you turn up the volume. Another nice feature is that the track quickly fades when changing to the next song, there is no abrupt stop. There are a few preset EQs saved, but the factory settings are fine for the rock music I listen to. Okay, now that all the satisfying stuff is gone, it's important to mention the downsides of this device. The rubber coating sucks, it stinks on my fingers and collects oil from my skin, clogging the player with fingerprints. I would advise users to be careful not to sweat excessively between small spaces (buttons/card slot). This little thing is a little flimsy if you have big fingers and log an unwarranted hard press on the button on the navigation ring. You have to get used to precise pressing with medium and light force. Also, when navigating the menu, the left and right buttons (on the button ring) are used to scroll up and down through the menu functions. Plus and minus are only used for volume control, you have to be prepared for that. I tried using plus and minus to move up and down, but I had to constantly remind myself that the left and right buttons completed those actions. The last thing that worries me is how difficult it is to insert/remove the micro SD. I had to use the pen's thin cap to slide the card into the internal locking mechanism for it to fit. The outer card must slide outside of the player's body and deep into the slot before it locks into place; when he sits, he is sunk. These issues don't actually negatively impact the overall functionality of idooz, but they may affect or degrade your experience, so be careful. Also, I don't think this player is forgiving if you keep dropping it, so make sure you have it deep in your pocket when you practice. I will update this review over the next 6 months if anything changes. To be honest I don't expect this player to last more than two years. I know it's sad that we expect cheap devices like this to be disposable, but for the price I wouldn't mind buying another one for $25 (after 24 months of daily use). It's worth the expense/risk if you're on the fence.

Pros
  • Delivery was very fast
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model
