I have an XL head (hat size 7 5/8) and it is big enough to cover the base of my ears. It's a miracle. Fleece is a lot less itchy, more breathable and more comfortable than beanie/watch hat/whatever acrylic so I'm glad I found the only brand big enough for my head. It's thin enough at the top and breathable enough to be comfortable in the 50's for longer wear, but with a double layer for the part of the headband above the ears, I'm fine in the 30's alone or paired with a hood in light winds and something for the face, at least for teenagers. I removed the logo tag, which was easy to do without damaging the hat, but after a month there was a faint outline of the stitching. olive grey/army green, all at the same time.
