My current relief valve is made by Wilkinson or something similar and I had to set it at 80 pounds to have adequate water pressure in the house. However, my main check valve in the basement was plastic and would not rotate easily, would not close fully, and started leaking. So I decided it was time to replace them and while I've been there and switched to check valves to protect against shark bites I'm also considering replacing the safety valve. Well I did and set it to 70 pounds. I was hoping it was good enough, thinking the old valve probably wouldn't be able to regulate and hold pressure as well as this new one over time. I was right! At 70 lbs my water pressure is even better than my old man at 80 lbs, much better now I've noticed that my sprinkler system throws water 10 feet with ease. The result is a huge difference and now I'm going to downsize my valve to 60 pounds or less.
