Review on EXtremeRate Controller Shoulder Flashshot CFI ZCT1 by Tyler Jacob

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I give it a rating of 4/5, but with caveats - PLEASE READ

INSTALLATION This is not for the faint of heart. You'll need to open and disassemble the controller almost as much as it can be disassembled without removing the soldered parts. The company has a YouTube video that is more helpful than a simple guide for most intents and purposes, and the video is fairly clear, although it may require some pausing and careful scanning to ensure you're inserting certain parts correctly. , the worst part is the first step of opening the controller which really makes you feel like you're breaking something. I've opened up five different DS4s in the past few weeks and it looks like you snap the little clip on the inside left when opening. Having inspected the mount I'm pretty sure it was specifically designed to break when opened - possibly for Sony warranty purposes e.g. B. to determine if the controller has been tampered with when you receive the DS4 for repair under warranty. Maybe they have a special tool that allows them to open it without this bracket snapping. In any case, after using the peek tool on the first pair of controllers, I found that it was much easier with the rest (and on later occasions when reopening controllers I had already opened once), simply pull firmly on one end. separated and then another. Especially since the clamping tool is badly damaged even after using it once or twice. I tried to take a picture of the above breaking braces but they are really tiny and hard to capture clearly. You'll notice it if you look hard enough, but it won't change anything. Just be sure to shake out any tiny bits of plastic that might be rolling around inside the controller before assembling it. MOD My biggest criticism of its design is that it fits all four shoulder/trigger buttons. If you're like me you just want to change the trigger range (R2/L2) to make them flat and you won't have a problem with the shoulder buttons (R1/L1) as they are, even in terms of depth or clickability. This mod doesn't care. It's for all four buttons and your shoulder buttons (R1/L1) will ALSO be smaller and clickier once this mod is fully installed. If you have read other reviews and questions about this product, you may be aware of the concern that you cannot use both buttons on the same side (R1/R2 or L1/L2) at the same time. I can confirm that this is a bit of a concern. On both of the controllers I modified with this product, the L1 (or R1) button is not reliably pressed when it is also being pressed by L2 (or R2). Sometimes pressing the L1/R1 button directly down from the center/top while holding the corresponding button on the shoulder is a little, and also a little more reliable, instead of pressing the button on the side. . Also, for some reason the problem seems to be on the right side rather than the left. Although there are issues with pressing the shoulder buttons while holding down the corresponding trigger, detection mostly works. In other words, a button press is recognized even if the shoulder button is not pressed. The first problem I mentioned is that I don't want to change the L1/R1 keys. The solution is also very simple: just don't attach the included transparent pins to the L1/R1 buttons. In the questions section here on Revain I was told that unless the mod is fully applied it won't work, but that's just not true. Annoyed that both buttons on the same side could not be pressed at the same time, I decided to open up one of my modified controllers again and remove the pins from L1 and R1. After this. I found that there was no loss of functionality and that the L1/R1 buttons were no longer as small as the mod made them. The issue of the impossibility of pressing the shoulder/trigger simultaneously on one side has also been carefully solved - now all four can be pressed at the same time without any problem. After this discovery, I also immediately removed the pins from my other modified controller. CONCLUSION I liked it before I discovered it could be installed without the shoulder pins (L1/R1) inserted and I like it now that I've made that discovery. . I've used it with several games and they're all fantastic. It'll hurt you in games that require trigger sensitivity (driving games mostly), but if you're even looking at this product, you probably already know that. If you want to play a racing game or GTA, you still need an unmodified controller to use with it. For everything else, this is definitely a great solution if you're not attached to feeling deep triggers or don't like them directly. I'm deducting a star for the aforementioned defect and design choice and for the vague answers on how to fix it, but really if you just omit the R1/L2 pegs this mod should work just fine. What do you want to do.
