Fun, powerful and very useful little MP3 combo

THIS DEVICE IS RECOMMENDED FOR: -- People who want to easily create mp3s from old LPs, cassettes, radio broadcasts or external sources without using a computer -- Grandmother who wants to play old records, cassettes, or radios so the sound doesn't sound too loud -- People who would appreciate a very small player that plays records, cassettes, and radios that don't take up much space. SIZE: Surprisingly and comfortably small and compact. The size of a decent birthday cake. WEIGHT: Very light, easy to move, has rubber bumpers on the bottom SOUND QUALITY: 2 speakers reproduce LP highs and mids with very little bass. For some reason, cassette tapes seem to have more bass than vinyl. If you want full range audio, grab some patch cords and connect the audio from the LINE OUT jacks through a good amp and speakers and you're good to go. JACKS: Yes. Behind. AUX IN: Yes. The AUX input lets you stream audio from a CD player, full-featured cassette player, tape player, or anything else with a line-out or headphone jack. And burn as MP3. PLAYER: Lightweight, belt-driven felt pad on top, includes 45 RPM adapter that simply dangles from the spindle. It doesn't matter, you can use another type if you want that will hold 45rpm records more securely. PLAYER SPEEDS: 33, 45, 78 NEEDLE LIFT LEVER: Yes Yes, however, when playing a small 78" record or a record recorded near the center mark, the platter sometimes stops before the end of the record is over. However, if you turn off the auto-stop function with the switch next to the needle, it will play all records to the end, no matter how close to the center the grooves at the end of the page are. AUTO RETURN AFTER RECORD PLAY: No, it doesn't. You can turn on the auto-stop feature, which works great with 33rpm records, or leave it off to play the record to the end. Half-press the cassette eject button on the side and the cassette will fast-forward. TAPE REWIND: Not available. But you can take out the tape, flip it and fast-forward from side B to the end, so that side A is at the beginning. No hiss. Good accuracy. AUDIO QUALITY OF MP3 FROM CASSETTE: Only the quality of the recording on the tape from the start, but if the source sounds good then so will MP3.MP3 BITRATE: 128 kbps, no other options. WAV RECORDING CAPABILITY: No, only 128k MP3 files are recorded. HOW THE MP3 RECORDING PROCESS WORKS: -- You place your chosen recording on a turntable, cassette into the slot without fully inserting it, or connect and plug in a CD player, tape recorder or other device to the AUX input an 8 GB USB stick into the designated slot -- Use the switch on the left to select PHONO, AUX, TUNER or TAPE to select the desired sound source -- Press the "Record" button to start the recording process The Device does not start recording immediately, but after 5-30 seconds a USB icon appears in a lighted window on the front panel. The device takes a few seconds to search for free space on the USB drive and index it. Once it does (which takes less time if the USB is already smaller), it starts recording. So during the "warm up" you have time to bring the turntable's stylus over the outer rim and hold the stylus lever up until the USB icon starts flashing in the blue window. that recording has started. Press "Stop" when the song, album page, or whatever you're playing is over. The USB accepts the new file. You don't have to "save" it or anything like that. You can record a song by pressing record, then waiting, then releasing the needle at the right time, then pressing stop. You can also allow the entire recording or side of the tape to be played and recorded, then save it and later trim it into separate tracks using MP3 trimming software if you wish. Or you can just record the whole side of the album at once and listen to it later as is. That being said, it's a really fun little package that's very useful as a recording program and can be hooked up to a 'real' stereo if you're looking for something other than decent 'budget' sound from speakers. Which is actually not that bad and is very practical for listening to the radio. There's no tape rewind or tone and balance controls, but those things aren't really left out. There's a distinct sense that this isn't a serious stereo component, but rather a useful little budget combo, designed primarily to turn your old LPs and cassettes into good MP3s that you can then listen to. also in this system if you want. It's very cute and does everything it promises. And its default settings, like MP3 recording level, are fine. And that's not bad at all. With this machine you don't have to do much tuning. Because of the sheer volume of things it does, it's amazingly foolproof, letting you do almost anything you want in one easy step. It was a great purchase and I am very happy with this car. I have a lot of old vinyl records, cassettes and reels to convert so I think I'll buy another one so I can play vinyl in one room and cassettes and tapes in another and get more work done faster!
