1500 lbs seems a bit misleading

Straps worked well for the purpose but the 1500 lbs can be a little misleading in that this is probably the strength of the strap not counting any other outside influences that can cause it to fray or break. For example if you are strapping furniture or desk or filing cabinet to the inside of a truck the edges and such can weaken and eventually break the strap, which happened to us after 2-3 months of weekly use even tho the items being strapped are a couple of hundred pounds apiece at most. So would I need 5000 lbs strap to secure 500 lb item? Seems like it
