husband proof! the best in the kitchen and dining room

Well, here's the thing. My husband is an absolute disaster in the kitchen. I seriously considered taking Rita Rudner's advice and putting in barbed wire, but he has wire cutters. So I stuck with it, sneaking into the kitchen and warming up something (I won't go so far as to call it cooking). A lot of my pans are cast iron, so he can't do much about them, except it took me a while to explain to him not to soak them in hot, soapy water. Likewise, my stainless steel cookware is pretty masculine. My copper utensils are forbidden - period. BUT - a man just can't stay away from the pot of pasta. Most people eat cookies and he eats pasta. My favorite pasta pot is a cheap thing I bought at Walmart with a thin coating of Teflon (or something like that) and a drain lid that closes. Someone could make a lot of money reproducing this jug in the best quality, but that's another story. Anyhoo.hubby advocated NOT using stainless steel utensils in said pot, but wood or nylon instead. A cheerful man, he obeyed. Sigh. He managed to destroy an entire set of bamboo spoons by soaking them in hot, soapy water, and interfered so much that he scratched the pan. I then went to a nylon shop and quickly discovered that he loves to melt nylon utensils and still scratch the pot. The pot is no longer made, but I bought a few of these. I only have 2 spares left so it's time to take responsibility and make sure these pots are no longer damaged. I had a Kitchenaid spoon and was very impressed with the performance and no scratches. But as far as I know they don't make a complete silicone kit. Trusty Revain introduced this set and the reviews were very thorough and very encouraging. Could I finally find the tools to defeat the mad scraper? When they arrived I washed them and tried them on right away. Well made utensils with good weight. Turner glided very well under fried eggs and sticky quesadillas. Spoons stand up to vigorous stirring, and the spoon mixes well and scrapes the side of the pan without scratching. The soup ladle is sturdy and can handle heavy bean soup. Yes, yes, they're red and they're special, alright, just not in the way you think. So the last test. After inspecting the scratches on the pot of pasta, he dropped it and grabbed one from his stash. Of course, Hub went to the kitchen and made himself a batch of buttered pasta. I watched furtively - and he moved with all his might. Must report complete success - the scratching post was demolished - and demolished in style. Despite the best efforts, not a single scratch can be seen. PLUS - greasy traces of butter slide off the spoon when tossing quickly in hot, soapy water. FINALLY - utensils it can't destroy, and I might not run out of pasta pots while waiting for someone to bring that particular pot back to market! Seriously, these are quality tools - for ANY cook (or stoker). They're the right length, well built, feel solid with no rough edges for food to get into, and they can handle the heat - literally and figuratively. Did I mention they don't scratch? I only have 2 comments. I would like a slightly larger bucket bowl and I would like to see it in black. However, the redness is growing on me and the bucket size is just a personal preference. These are very hardworking tools and I'm very glad I bought them. I also added a spatula, tongs, baking mats and a baking set. I've found I always reach for these tools no matter what pan I use, so I sent the set to my brother - he's an excellent cook but he also loves to scratch pans. Thank you StarPack - you invented a cure. for the terrible disease of scratching the pot! Edited to add: someone wrote that they got boring in the dishwasher. I've run them in the dishwasher 10 or more times with no problems. But then last night they came out REALLY dull - almost like a gray film on them. I immediately rinsed them off with Dawn and that removed all the film. Then it dawned on me - I changed the brand of dishwashing liquid. I used the Cascade gel but I opened the finish bottle. I looked at everything else in the dishwasher from this download - and everything looked boring. In my case it was dish soap, NOT silicone. I ran out and grabbed a bottle of Cascade, ran everything again including silicone dishes - NO problems. It might not even be the brand of dishwashing liquid, but how its specific ingredients react to your water. For me the problem is solved.
