I have a $1200 Fluke network cable tester at work. It's great at what it does, but it's too expensive for my home use. I have a setup of 4K cameras throughout the house and lost two cameras after a recent rainstorm. I narrowed it down to the fact that the network cable connections are corroded so I need to cut off the old RJ45 connectors and make new ones. Having no idea what the original wiring was, I had to cut off each end and make new connections. That's where this tool comes in handy. After swapping both ends of the first cable I was able to use the RJ45 point on the main unit and use the remote RJ45 jack to verify that the wiring was correct. It wasn't the first time two wires had been crossed. I cut off one end and did it again and could see the wiring was perfect. This inexpensive tool did the same job as a very expensive one and I will use it many times in the future.
