Review on 🌬️ Stay Cool Anywhere with the Portable Air Mover by Michael Sharp

More air movement than most models and less cost

This fan needs more ratings. It's good. But I see it's not always in stock, so I'm giving an alternative fan recommendation in this review. Please note that this is a "first impression" review. I'll definitely update it if I run into any longer-term issues. I would also like to note that I read somewhere on another website that Vacmaster is not UL listed. I can't confirm this other than I don't see the UL logo on it or in the manual and it probably helps keep costs down. But it has the Intertek test logo. I do not care. It looks good. Doesn't feel cheap. For years I have used a salvaged fan mount and motor mounted on a homemade plywood stand, with fine mesh netting around the fan to protect my fingers and a zip tie to reduce stress. It is also not UL listed. I obviously didn't die. The device has a robust cable, at least on the outside. It is reported to be 12 feet long. Maybe a few inches less, but I didn't stretch it to size. The 3-step adjustment is safe and easy to turn. Features two outlets and a circuit breaker reset button, with controls on the same side as the air outlets (more on that later). Not too loud, and the noise comes from the air movement, not the motor or bearings. (You need to move a lot of air. You're going to get noise from each of these fans.) A good wide opening for the air to exit the unit. Good wide entrances. Squirrel Fan Design; very efficient for air movement. The closest device in terms of price and features in my opinion is the XPOWER P-80A, which has many reviews and seems to be readily available. It's rated at 600cfm at 1.2A compared to the VacMaster's 550cfm at 1.3A. And it comes with a "stand" to provide a further air direction position, ie 20 degrees up. IMHO the stand is a gimmick. (Has anyone the book?) The P-80A's cable is only 10 feet long while the Vacmaster is 12 feet. The carrying handle looks better on the P-80A. Pretty low. The P-80A sockets are located on the side of the unit, not on the front of the Vacmaster. If you need them, this is a more convenient place for outlets. But the tailpipe also takes up space for an air intake on one side, and it looks like that might increase the noise (just a guess). But if you are running several of these fans in series, you probably don't care about noise and the P-80A would be the best choice for this application. The VacMaster was about $17 less than the P-80A when I bought it and it meets my needs. I also liked the longer cable. Due to the COVID19 virus I am working 100% from home. The room I work in is the 'bonus room' on the second floor above our non air conditioned garage. The bonus room is hotter in the summer and colder in the winter than the rest of the second floor. During the summer months (right now) I use the Vacmaster to blow cooler air from the hallway into the bonus room. It seems to work and is a more convenient choice than a separate window air conditioner, although the window air conditioner allows me to close the door. For the money the Vacmaster seems like a good choice.

Pros
  • 3 speeds for easy airflow control
Cons
  • Some difficulties
