I have two primary pumps in my sump. Each according to its own scheme and with its own category. I have an automatic power generator for the whole house, so I don't have to worry about wasting electricity. What bothered me were defective and overloaded pumps. A few years ago I had 2x 1/3hp pumps that ran at 100% all day and ended up overloading. The basement is flooded. One of the pumps was installed when the house was built and I installed the other when I moved in. I figured the builder/plumber knew what he was doing when he installed the 1/3 hp pump. After reading the information about flooding I found this 1/2 HP. would be ok, but 3/4 hp are recommended. due to the number of revolutions and the distance they travel in the injection tube. Anyway I upgraded the pumps to 2 x 1hp pumps. (The 3/4 hp pumps were sold out at the time). Pumps with mechanical vertical floats hardly fit in the sump. I had to move the backup float to make it work as a backup, but I was always worried it might get stuck. I also didn't like that raising the float would cause the pit not to drain when using the backup. Enter this switch! This switch is great because I can adjust the low and high levels. This means I can have a backup trigger that is much higher than the main trigger and still completely drain the pit. I don't have to worry about the float getting hooked either. My main complaint is the huge power adapter. Due to the size, I had to install a separate 1-way socket. Both of my circuits came to individual sockets in a 2-gang box. It was too close to hook up another pump! My other complaint about building such a power supply is that I couldn't easily mount it with my power monitor. I use power monitors to see if the primary and/or backup server is down. I finally managed to test this switch last night. It's smarter than I thought! It turned out that my backup pump hadn't been used for so long that the vent/outlet was clogged. There was an airlock. When the pump was turned on, almost no water was pumped out. This continued without lowering the water level. However, unlike a mechanical mute switch, this one actually stops the pump and tries again after a second or two! It was great to watch. When the vent is clogged, the airlock will unclog and it will start pumping. Sometimes it took 2 attempts to clear the blockage. If more than one attempt is required, the LED on the power supply will flash to notify you of the error. Unfortunately, the error will reset when the pump is working properly again. minor problem. Still, it's pretty cool that you managed to fix the airlock! I'd put another one on the primary pump because it works so well, but I prefer multiple types of detectors (float/electronic) so there's no common ground. Mistake.
