I purchased several of these because of the price point but to help several strays/abandoned cats through a bitter cold spell. I added straw on top of these and enclosed some outdoor chairs with trash bags and cardboard to help the strays find warmth, protection from the wind. I also leaned a wrapped pallet against the house and placed one mat on the ground, adding a lot of straw. The next day, I found burrowed holes in the straw and they had gravitated to these self heating mats for warmth. When it warmed up, I retrieved them and washed them and the mats continue to be in good shape. I then purchased another for my own indoor cats and wrapped a blanket around it and placed it on my bed. These seem to be a good purchase and can recommend them. I hate that people abandon their "domesticated" pets that they think are wild animals. Wish there was a better understanding of pets' needs in this world, a caring attitude. But these mats will help them through the cold nights. For me, this is a small joy.
