I have been using this style of mug for years. I've broken each of my previous ones, through carelessness on my part - you can't expect a ceramic mug to survive falling from the top of a moving car. But when I break one I immediately buy another. I prefer drinking from a ceramic mug, the travel top sits in deeply enough that the plastic doesn't make physical contact. The wide base makes it a very stable cup and it doesn't slide around on my dashboard due to the ring attached to the bottom. The only time it didn't work well for me was when I had a vehicle that didn't have a relatively flat dashboard, so with that car I used the model that fits into a cup holder. However, that style isn't as stable so when I had to get rid of that car I returned to this model of mug.
