Review on πŸ“Ί Enhance Your Viewing Experience with the Philips DVP3980 Hi-Def 1080p Up-Conversion DVD Player by Phil Kowal

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Very good quality upconversion and easy region creation without restrictions

I bought this DVD player about a month ago. I only use the HDMI input and have a Yamaha vx465 receiver that allows audio streaming over HDMI. Here's what I think of this unit: + EXCELLENT upconversion. I've played various DVDs and the picture is really excellent, especially considering the price of the device. I have a 32" Sony Bravia XBR9 and the picture is very clear. In fact, I saw the Blu-ray transfer on this player looked worse than the upconverted DVD. + It's incredibly easy to make a region free .The codes are available everywhere on the web or in some previously published reviews. It plays region 2 DVDs flawlessly.DivX support.Does not read MKV.+ files Small. Its form factor is easy to plug in anywhere.+ Menus and options are despite actually very complete because of the cheap price.- Well I think it's because of the low price but the build quality leaves something to be desired. The unit looks cheap and the DVD loading box looks very poor. You want to load it carefully and with a Close the button instead of pushing it away with your fingers This is a little disappointing I also bought a Philips DVD642 4 years ago and although it was in the same price range , the build quality was much better. The board is too easy. I wish he had more options. All in all a great product, especially for those playing imported DVDs. 2 thumbs up for the quality of the upconversion. I've seen more expensive players do a worse job. You won't get the same results as a $500 Denon DVD player, but if you're on a budget this is a great little player with fantastic 1080p output. (HDMI cable required!)
