Review on GemRed Digital Depth Height Router by Sean Webb

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Used to match basement base template overhang to mating wood dovetail grooves.

This digital depth gauge with detent makes it much easier and quicker to set and compare the spacing of the stencil fingers on my 16" wide Keller 1601 socket stencil from the front of the stencil board. The distance from the face of the mounting board to the semicircular end of the template socket fingers will determine the fit of the mating wood dovetails.Tougher woods such as hard maple require more precise control of this depth to get a good fit without using excessive force to spank it.You need the same finger depth across the width of the wood from which you will cut the nests, otherwise there will be a slight angle in the cut nests and the mating dovetails will snag on the edges of the nests.I used vernier calipers and a steel ruler as a reference plane to measure the depth of my finger measure, and you e ends and middle of my stencil to adjust the depth, but I found this to be too cumbersome. I square the bottom of the calipers for the reference plane. Now I rotate this digital depth gauge 90 degrees. and just use 1 foot resting on the circuit board and measure each of the template toes.
