I bought two sets of these DreamColor lights and placed them under my patio railing. I bought an extra RGB lighting kit and ran it under my stairs. I had no problem cutting and splicing the RGB lighting strips so I could insert extension cords when: (1) light runs from tier to tier and (2) covers two flights of stairs that are about 32 feet apart. I drilled holes in the railings and posts for the Dreamcolor strips. However, the Dreamcolor strips were a problem as I want the microphone to be positioned at a specific spot on my patio and I want the starting point of the LED strips to be set further than the cable length supplied. Since you shouldn't cut the Dreamcolor light strips at your own risk (I'm pretty sure this will void my warranty/support) I cut the wires between the pin header and the power supply and connected them in some sort of extension cord. the cable. I found that I couldn't insert more than 3 feet of extension cord before the Dreamcolor signal became "tangled" (it would lose the ability to control the correct colors, the light would "get stuck"). I bought a smaller extension cord and data repeater/amplifier and am hoping to extend the extension cords more than 16 feet. I will post updates, but I welcome any input from anyone who has already done so or has experience with this type of thing. The furniture is now very functional and the terrace is very popular (at least for the moment) with my family members. The power strip, power adapters, microphones, etc. are stored in the Suncast's 22-gallon case. Java resin mesh storage seat (model SSW1200) where I cut a hole underneath for the power/LED wires. The storage does a great job of keeping gear dry and I look forward to bringing it with me for the winter season. I also like the bass created when we place a portable Bluetooth speaker there (next to the microphone). I set it up in Google Assistant so we can verbally say things like "Turn patio lights on to 50 percent" or "Set patio lights to white." The attached demo video is in music mode - Energic.1/12/2020, Conclusion after experimenting with other systems: CON for Govee Dreamcolor vs. competing custom systems: 1. I couldn't connect the 3 inch extension cords to get the Band adjust distance and microphones. One problem is that their connectors are proprietary. Maybe someone with more soldering experience won't have any problems, but I still have questions about the 12V power supply. Advantages of Govee Dreamcolor compared to competing custom systems: 1. You don't have to spend time learning and agreeing on ribbon type, controller type and supply voltage once you are familiar with the distance between microphone and LED strip.2. The cost of a Govee system is less than half the cost of a custom system (ie IP65 strips, controller, power supply, 3M tape).3. In my opinion and limited experience, this Govee system has the best controller (in the price range). It has it all: Alexa/Google Assistant integration, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth control, and cool music patterns.
