Review on Sipolar Industrial Charger Charging Station by Jeff Davidson

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Charger? Yes! Five stars! MTT? No! A star!

As a charging station, this is a beefy piece of connectivity. Nice metal body. Solid looking power brick. Internally it uses Terminus chips with a 7-port main hub that has six 4-port hubs attached for the actual ports you connect to. The six leaf hubs are a 1.1s chip and support "downstream port charging according to the USB-IF battery charging specification". If your class is full of kids and devices, this is a great way to keep them charged and in sync. Five stars. However, each of the six leaf hubs has a transaction translator. So if you connect two devices to adjacent ports at full speed, chances are only one of them will be working at full bandwidth. As an MTT hub, I found that I could only use 6 of the 20 ports for my application. (Leaf hubs are grouped 1-4, 5-7, 8-10, 11-14, 15-17, 18-20. I was only able to use one port from each group.) "MTT" is usually written as "one transaction"understood". interpreter per port", and by this general definition it is NOT an MTT hub. One asterisk. Note that this only applies to full-speed devices. If your devices are high-speed devices (like probably in a classroom full of kids), then MTT is no problem at all.
