This at gives good protection from the sun for my face and neck and hair. I like the light weight of the hat and the string to hold the hat on my head even on a windy day. I also like that I can put this hat in my small backpack. I don't completely bend the hat because I feel it might not recover. When I put it in my backpack, I give it a rounded fold and put something in the middle of the hat so it does not fold flat. I used it for in windy and hot weather and I felt it worked well. I think it would benefit from having a little thicker top of the hat for more protection of the top of my head from the sun. The top fabric is very thin so I don't know how protected my head would be from long exposure to the sun. It has served me well so far. I also use it on 20-30 minute walks in my neighborhood, where temperatures are between 80-100 at this time.
