Works as expected once the smell wears off

These mats have a HORRIBLE strong plastic/chemical smell. I left the smaller floor mats in the garage and the heat has noticeably increased the smell so I'm not sure you need them in your car in the summer. We bought them to cover the carpet to keep cats away so I can't comment on how they work in the car.
