I love OOFOS - I don't love these shoes

It's killing me to write this because I've been celebrating OOFOS for years. I swear I convinced at least 25 people to buy their flip flops. I've had these shoes for 3 months now - I bought them because I'm obsessed with their flip flops/sandals as they basically cured my horrible plantar fasciitis. I wanted to be able to walk a bit more and flip flops (although great) are not suitable for long walks. I saved up for a while to justify them because, let's be honest, it pains me to spend $60 on (obviously foam-molded) flip-flops, not to mention double the price for some pretty ugly shoes. But I did it. I've worn them maybe 5 times just for walking on paved easy trails maybe less than 10 miles total on a couple of hikes. As you can see, they look terrible. The sole is cracked and already crumbling. Permanent compression lines are visible at the edges of the foam. You feel like you have no more support. The design of the shoe is also confusing - the band on the upper is in an odd place and offers no support and no real aesthetic value. The green tabs on my heels gave me blisters (solved by wearing bigger socks) and they are both too wide and too narrow at the top! It's like they were designed by someone who has never worn shoes before. To be honest if they were $35 I wouldn't complain. It would be a case of "you get what you pay for" and we would all get on with our lives. But for $120 I expected to be blown away and never want to take them off. But even THEN I might not realize how gross they are, and not even the price, IF they really do feel like well-made, durable shoes. But that's not the case. If you need a great pair of hiking shoes and are paying that much money for one, skip the OOFOS and get the Oboz.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Big and bulky
