I bought this Toslink cable to connect the digital optical audio output of my new TV (LG CX class) to a digital audio converter to output sound to my old audio system. Initially I tried to use an old, off-the-shelf Toslink cable, but couldn't connect the connector to the TV's optical port. On the contrary, this new Toslink cable connects to the new TV without any problems. I suspect the gold-plated metal connector on this cable (as opposed to the crude plastic connector on my old cable) helped ensure a successful connection. (Note: After much research, curiosity, and time, I tried again to connect the old Toslink cable to the new TV. Eventually, I managed to connect using more effort than I was willing to use than the TV In the end I put the old cable back to work with my old Apple TV (the plastic Toslink connector wasn't a problem with either this device or the D/A converter) and got this new cable with a metal connector for a new TV.)
