I have a black screen like mine? Try moving memory in different combinations and reloading in between. In the end, I was able to use the 32GB of Crucial storage with Apple's 8GB of storage for a total of 40GB, but it took some experimentation. My 2017 27" iMac with 8GB of RAM came with two 4GB modules installed in slots 2 and 4. I first installed Crucial memory in slots 1 and 3 and got nothing but a black screen. Pulled everything out and reinstalled with the same black screen. Removing 8GB of Apple storage helped, but I was only left with 32 in slots 2+4. Reinstalling Apple storage in slots 1+3 brought me back to the black screen. After that I moved the Apple storage to slots 1+2 and the Crucial to 3+4. It worked! Only 40GB of storage. However, the memory does not fit, so that there is a significant jump in performance in this configuration. At this point I switched off and tried the first configuration one last time - Apple Memory on 2+4 and Crucial on 1+3 and finally it worked! Works with 40GB memory with twin modules. You might think the modules were installed incorrectly, but I believe that's not the case. Probably considering how many times I've reinstalled modules. So if you see nothing but a black screen, try moving the modules to other positions, and once something works, try going back to the ideal configuration. With a bit of luck you will also find a magic spell for your system.
