I looked at several choices for blocking mats and was apprehensive because of the reports of a bad odor. I actually contacted this company to ask what I could expect from their product. They said that odors could be picked up in shipping but I shouldn't have a problem. They also wanted to know right away if I did. So I ordered two sets. There was a very slight but not unpleasant smell of the case they come in but after airing it all out over night, the smell was completely gone. These mats are great for blocking crochet and knitting, and right now I'm using a single one on my lap to join granny squares. The sets are interchangeable and go together nicely. Definitely recommended.
