We purchased two sets (4 speakers total) of Acoustic Audio 151W indoor/outdoor speakers and installed them around our pool. When we received them I was very interested to see the mounting hardware as many of the reviews here indicated that the speakers were not easy to install and there are no pictures anywhere of the mounting hardware or the speakers actually installed. Let me say first. , for small speakers with an impedance of only 8 ohms they sound pretty good on my Sherwood receiver. The highs and especially the lows are better than expected. We're no music experts, but we didn't hear any distortion, hum, or crackle from speakers mounted 25 to 75 feet from a receiver connected with 14-gauge outdoor speaker wire. some hand in designing the mounting hardware. Try imagining a ball stud with a thread on one end (to screw into the back or bottom of the speaker) placed in the mounting base. A threaded plug screws into the underside of the base to tension the spindle, allowing the spindle to hold its position. This stub becomes inaccessible once the base is actually mounted to what you intend to hang the speakers from (house grooves, fence posts, etc.). To do this, position the spindle and speakers at the correct angle and tighten the connector in the base before attaching the base to the support structure. Because the speakers are relatively large compared to the base, there is very little (in other words, no) room to actually get the tool to the screws that attach the base (now behind the speaker) to the support structure (offset or hinged ) is fixed screwdriver). a tool would probably be VERY useful here). If you don't have enough clearance between the speaker and any part of the structure, you can't install the base first and then screw/tighten the speaker onto the metal shaft of the spindle. ALSO if the tension between the spindle and connector ever goes weak the speakers will sag and you will have to remove the base from the structure to access the connector to re-tighten the spindle and then reinstall it as you found out have do it the first time once. Our solution was to build little "birdhouses" with opening front doors, which we mounted to our fence and simply inserted the speakers (without the speaker mounting hardware that came with them) into the houses. The mini houses not only keep the speakers safe from the elements when not in use, but they also look pretty hanging on the fence. Hopefully this review will help people prepare for the "Montage Challenge" these speakers are presenting. Did we mention they sound damn good?
