This tub was perfect for our newborn. I always keep a hand on her so she doesn't move too far, but you can just put a towel in the tub to support baby. What I really like is that the green tub has 3 small holes in the bottom that allow water to drain and seep into the white tub. This makes it easy to regulate the water flow during the bath - if the water gets a little cold, I add some warm water and the bath water never gets too full. Ideal for a newborn who gets a little scared if the water gets too high. I also like the shiny look of the plastic and the very cute colors! It's certainly not super compact, but it's not huge either, and it's actually pretty light and easy to move around. I drain it in our tub.
