Very durable zipped backpack that attaches in front of the pommel to keep small items close at hand like a hoof pick or small pen handle a knife, insect repellent (for mine horse, but I'm sure I could use it as a last resort) and other items I'll be sure to think of. It's not designed to hold much and if I plan on eating on the trail rather than coming back after a ride I'll buy a larger pack and maybe one that attaches behind the piping. If you just want to make sure you have what you're most likely to need on each day's hike (the lack of a hoof pick on the trip prompted me to purchase this set), this little set is perfect.
